THE Other Lecture

Once again, Dr. Marcel Zwitser took the podium and delivered a lecture on Debussy and Ravel.

Marcel demonstrated at the piano, using examples from Nuage, the first of Debussy's three Symphonic Nocturnes.

He then turned to Ravel.

Marcel concluded that Debussy was the more modern of the two, as he used familiar chords in unfamiliar settings, whereas by contrast, Ravel used unfamiliar chords in familiar settings. Personally, I concluded that Ravel was more modern because he came later. Hmmm.
