Faculty Concert

The Crescendo Faculty Concert was one of the most enjoyable in my memory. The performed in the Synagogue, a great showerstall of reverberation. Here was the program:

Jean-Jacques Goumaz (SUI) and Bethany Brooks (USA) presented Oboe Concerto #1 in d minor by Lugwig August Lebrun (1752-1790) to splendid effect. Virtuoso and very elegant.

Kallo Zsolt (HUN) and Erica Dallos (HUN) presented two movements from Bach, c-minor Sonata for Violin and Harpsichord. Very luscious.

Swetlana Meerman-Muret (FRA) presented the sixth movement, Canzona Serenata, from 8 Forgotten Melodies, op. 38, by the great, neglected Russian composer, Nicolai Medtner. Fabulous.

Agnes Kallay (HUN) and Dominik Brühwiler (SUI) presented the tempestuous second movement from Brahms' Cello Sonata #2 in F Major, op. 99.

Robert Lugosi (HUN) and Vera Lugosiné (HUN) presented the first movement from the Suite for Trombone and Piano, op. 22, by Axel Jørgensen. Interesting. Beautifully delivered.

Baritone Uwe Schenker-Primus (GER) and Erica Dallos (HUN) presented Falstaff's aria, "L'onore, ladri", from Verdi's Falstaff, in a highly dramatic fashion--terrific--what a voice!

Steven Gross (USA), Julie Gross (USA), and Gergely Kaposi (HUN) presented Aphelion, by Daniel Baldwin.

Tünde Szabóki (HUN) sang Prelude and Liebestod form Wagner's Tristan and Isolde, with Sámuel Tóth (HUN) at the piano, a huge highlight of the evening.

Dag Anders Eriksen (NOR), David Danel (CZE), and Dinu Serfezi (SWE) completed the evening with a dazzling performance of Dvorak: Terzetto in C, op.74. Best I ever heard.

A grand shot of all the performers.
